What candidates see when they interact with your assessments
The candidate portal is where applicants take exams, view results, and track their application status. Understanding this experience helps you optimize for completion and reduce candidate anxiety.
Dashboard shows all active and past applications. Exam interface includes timers, progress bars, and autosave. Results page displays scores, feedback, and next steps. Status updates show 'Applied', 'In Review', 'Interview Scheduled', etc.
Preview as Candidate
From any exam or job posting, click 'Preview as Candidate'. This loads the exact interface candidates see. Test the full flow: invitation click, exam start, submission.
Test on Multiple Devices
Try the portal on mobile, tablet, and desktop. Verify that coding editors, video recording, and timers work smoothly on all screen sizes.
Check Email Notifications
Candidates receive emails for invitations, reminders, results, and status changes. Send yourself test emails to verify formatting, links, and branding.
Evaluate Clarity of Instructions
Read all candidate-facing text with fresh eyes. Are time limits clear? Do they know if they can pause? Is technical support contact info visible?
Optimize for Low Anxiety
Add encouraging messages: 'Take your time, we're here to help.' Link to FAQ or support. Show progress indicators so candidates know how much is left.
Candidate experience directly impacts completion rates. A confusing or stressful portal means losing good candidates to technical frustration.
Can I pause and resume? (Depends on your settings.) Can I use external resources? (State this clearly in instructions.) When will I hear back? (Set expectations upfront.) Proactively answering these reduces support requests and candidate stress.
